Applicants must:
  • Be employed in a library or information center.
  • Have a qualifying degree in library or information science. The qualifying degree may vary depending upon country of origin, but should be the general library or information science degree recognized in the country. Normally a PhD is not considered a qualifying degree, because the Fellowship program is targeted for early career librarians.
  • Have obtained the qualifying degree between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2014.
  • Have at least three years, but no more than eight years, of library or information science experience. For the 2016 program, applicants must have library or information science experience that begins no earlier than January 1, 2007 and no later than January 1, 2012.
  • Be a legal national from a qualifying country (see list of Qualifying Countries) and be working as a librarian or information science professional in that country.
  • Read and speak English proficiently.
  • Be prepared to work as a team member with other Fellows and to participate as required in this fast-paced program.

Benefit:
The award provides the following for each Fellow:
  • Airfare, coach class, from the recipient’s home country to the United States and return trip to the recipient’s home country (transportation to and from the airport in the recipient’s home country is the responsibility of the award recipient).   • For consideration, qualified applicants must prepare and submit an application, including an electronic copy of their qualifying library or information science degree diploma. The application must follow the content outline and format described in the document “2016 Application.” The completed application, including diploma copy, PLUS two letters of recommendation must be received by OCLC no later than February 13, 2015. The application and letters of recommendation must be in English.
  • A specially appointed Selection Committee, comprised of representatives from the sponsoring organizations, will evaluate and score the applications and propose award winners to the Vice President, OCLC Global and Regional Councils, who shall have final selection authority.
  • Award recipients will be contacted via email in July 2015 to confirm their participation. Award recipients will be announced at the World Library and Information Congress: 81st IFLA General Conference and Assembly in Cape Town, South Africa, August 2015. Names of award recipients will be posted on the OCLC website after the announcement is made at the IFLA General Conference.

The East-West Center invites four to six visiting fellows to promote research activities on Korean topics at the Cente. This visiting fellowship is available for outstanding scholars and policy makers. CULTURAL FELLOWSHIPS IN RUSSIA
The Likhachev Foundation (St. Petersburg, Russia) and the Fund of the First Russian President Boris N. Yeltsin (Moscow, Russia), with support of the Committee on External Relations of Saint Petersburg announce competition for 2-week cultural fellowships in Russia (St. Petersburg) from May 11 until May 24, 2015 for foreign professionals in the field of arts and culture who work on projects related to Russian culture. Airfare (economy class) and accommodation in St. Petersburg will be covered by the organizers.

Until February 1, 2015 the Likhachev Foundation will accept applications from professionals in the field of culture and history or arts from foreign countries who are currently working on creative projects related to Russian culture or history. Command of the Russian language is very helpful but not required. Students are not eligible.
Working languages of the program are English and Russian.

The creative project could be a museum exhibition project, a theater production, a film, a photo exhibition, preparation of fiction or research books, etc. related to Russian culture or history. The creative project should be conceived in a foreign country and should be aimed at a broad audience. Two-week residency in Russia should serve as an important stage in the realization of the applicant’s cultural project.

The Likhachev Foundation will prepare individual programs for the fellows according to their projects’ specifics, to help them achieve maximum results during their fellowships. These programs will include meetings with Russian colleagues, opportunities to work at St. Petersburg museums, libraries, archives, and other organizations.

Ten two-week fellowships will be organized from May 11 until May 24, 2015 in St. Petersburg (Russia).

Deadline for submitted applications is February 1, 2015.
Applicants will be notified of the review panel decision by March 1, 2015.

Application should include:

  • CV (including information on Russian language skills, previous creative projects related to Russia, and previous visits to Russia).
  • Description of the creative project (up to 3 pages) such as a museum or exhibition project, a theater production, a film, preparation of fiction or research books, and other types of cultural projects related to Russian culture or history. It should contain, in particular, a paragraph on how a residency in St. Petersburg will benefit the applicant’s creative project and which cultural organizations in St. Petersburg the applicant would like to work with.

 Eligibility:
  • The fellowship programme is open to doctoral candidates of all disciplines.
  • Applicants need not necessarily already be enrolled as PhD candidates at the time of application.
  • Already enrolled applicants: If the applicant is already enrolled as a PhD candidate at the University of Vienna, the admission has to have occurred no earlier than the summer semester 2013.
  • Not yet enrolled applicants: If the applicant is not yet enrolled as a PhD candidate at the University of Vienna, the admission needs to take place before October 2015.
  • If funding of a duration of at least 2 years has been granted from elsewhere (e.g. ÖAW-DOC scholarship, or an employment at the university), then it is not possible to apply for the uni:docs scholarship.
  • The funding of part-time dissertations is not possible. Additional employment which is not clearly related to research is also not possible.
  • Applicants need a supervisor at the University of Vienna who is working in the field of the planned thesis. At the time of their application, applicants already have to be accepted by this supervisor as PhD candidate. The supervisor needs to fill out an online form (see application documents) to complete the application process.
Benefit:
  1. Uni:docs fellows will be employed at the University of Vienna for 30h/week according to the current collective agreement. 
  2. Uni:docs fellows are members of the scientific staff who enjoy all rights and duties involved in such a position.
Tenure:
  • Fellowship will begin from 1 October 2015. Generally, the scholarship is granted for three years. An evaluation will take place in the first year (in the 10th funding month). A positive evaluation requires a successful public presentation, a first annual progress report, and a positive statement of the supervisor. At first, the PhD candidates are employed for one year and only after a positive evaluation the employment will be extended for another two years. The maximum funding duration of the uni:docs programme is three years.
  • An extension of the funding duration is not possible. However, an interruption for research reasons, such as for a funded research stay abroad, is possible. The salary is suspended for the duration of this interruption. In this case the programme will be prolonged for the duration of the interruption. The supervisor and the rectorate need to approve the interruption.
Application Procedure:
  • Candidates are required to submit applicants online.
  • Language: Documents need to be submitted in the prevailing scientific language of the specific research field. However, in the Life- and Natural Sciences the application must be in English. The application language is not necessarily the language in which the dissertation will be authored.
  • Please note: The language of the application must allow for both the internal as well as the international review of the applications. If the language of the application constrains either one of the selection steps, your application may be rejected.
  • The application form and the abstract are to be filled in online. If the application is in German, the abstract has to be written in German as well. If the application is in a language other than German, the abstract must be written in English. All further documents must be uploaded as pdf. documents. All documents are to be composed with font size 11 and 1.5 spacing. These documents include:

Commonwealth Professional Fellowships provide an opportunity for mid-career professionals from developing Commonwealth countries to spend a period of time with a UK host organization working in their field for a program of professional development. The duration of the fellowships between one and three months this may be extended up to a maximum of six months. The fellowships cover the living expenses for the fellow as well as a return airfare to the UK. It also provides £800 funding support to the host organization, with a budget of up to £3,000 available for attendance at conferences, on short courses and other eligible costs. The CSC cannot accept any applications directly from prospective Fellows.

Course Level: 
Commonwealth Professional Fellowships support Mid-Career Professionals to spend a period of time with a UK host organization working in their field for a program of professional development.

Eligibility: 
To be eligible for a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship, candidates should:
  • Be Commonwealth citizens, refugees or British protected persons, and must be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country
  • Normally have at least five years’ relevant work experience in a profession related to the subject of the application, by the proposed start of the Fellowship.
  • Be available to commence their Fellowship within prescribed dates as stated on the CSC website
  • Not have undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship in the last five years
  • Not be seeking to undertake an academic programme of research or study in the UK. Academics are eligible to apply for the scheme, but only to undertake programmes of academic management, not research or courses relevant to their research subject.
  • The CSC wishes to promote equal opportunity, gender equity and cultural exchange. Applications are encouraged from a diverse range of candidates.
Benefit:
Each Commonwealth Professional Fellowship provides:
  1. A return economy airfare from the Fellow’s home country to the UK
  2. A monthly (or pro rata) living allowance for the duration of the Fellowship (currently £1,563 per month regionally, £1,938 per month for those based in the London Metropolitan area). Exceptionally, depending on the programme arranged, a peripatetic living allowance may be payable. Further details if applicable will be given at the time of offer
  3. An arrival allowance of up to £878.17 at current rates, including an element for warm clothing
  4. A fixed amount for excess baggage for return travel only, dependent on the airport destination. The Fellow will be advised of the amount close to the date of departure
  5. A flat rate contribution of £800 to the costs of the host organisation(s), in respect of the administration and support of the Fellow, setting up of appropriate meetings, and any materials required, as well as costs of incidental travel for the Fellow during the award
  6. Fees for any conferences or short courses attended during the period of the Fellowship, providing that these have been approved at the time when the application was considered by the CSC. Reasonable fees up to a maximum of £3,000 will be agreed in the context of the length of the programme, but full justification should be given for the amount being claimed. Fees should also be included in the application to cover the cost of travel for visits to other organisations in the UK, where these form an integral part of the programme
  7. Other fees, for which the CSC will consider requests from the nominating organisation on a case-by-case basis. However, when planning an application, nominating/host organisations should bear in mind the following restrictions:
  8. Induction/evaluation programmes must be in scale with the programme.
  9. Modest fees including catering, room hire, and facilitator hire for such programmes may be agreed; however, fees for facilitators for evaluation programmes will not be approved.
  10. Additional accommodation costs may be recovered from the Fellow’s stipend.
  11. Requests for funds for cultural events, mobile phones, laptop computer hire, professional association memberships, costs associated with visits outside the UK, and contingencies will not be approved.

Tenure:
  • Fellowships should normally be between one and three month’s duration, although applications for longer periods (up to a maximum of six months) will be considered, but only when a strong case for the additional time has been made. 
  • The duration of the Fellowship should, however, be long enough to allow for serious development of professional skills, so the CSC will not be able to consider applications for awards of less than one month.
 Number of Awards:
The maximum number of fellows that can be nominated by an organization in one year is six. The CSC will decide upon the actual number of Fellows chosen.
 Application Procedure:
  • Prospective Professional Fellows who are nominated by a UK organisation will be asked to complete the Electronic Application System (EAS). 
  • Applications without two references (one from your current employer) will not be put forward to the selection committee. 
  • You must check with your referees that they have submitted these via the EAS – further information for referees on how to submit a reference. The CSC does not accept direct applications from candidates and cannot provide a list of UK organisations that are willing to host Fellows.
  • 2015 applications for Commonwealth Professional Fellowships will be judged on the following criteria:
  • The extent to which the proposed Fellowship will ensure the transfer of skills relevant to the needs of a Commonwealth developing country
  • The extent to which those skills will lead to practical benefits for the developing country following the Fellowship
  • The extent to which the Fellowship will have a catalytic effect, either within the developing country concerned, or in establishing new relationships with the UK

The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) offers Monbukagakusho (MEXT) scholarships for Master’s students in the field of policy studies in Japan. Total 20 scholarships are offered. Scholarships are open to foreign students (be nationals of countries with which Japan has diplomatic relations).
