Ellis Island

You might be surprised to learn that Ellis Island, the famous gateway into America for millions of immigrants is actually part of New Jersey and not New York. In 1998, the US Supreme Court ruled that Ellis Island was mostly in the jurisdiction of Jersey City, New Jersey.
But land disputes aside, what makes Ellis Island remarkable are the amazing stories from the immigrants who were processed at the Immigrant Station beginning in 1892. Including stories like this one from Isabel Belarsky – who immigrated from Russia when she was 9-years old.
