Pushkar Lake

Pushkar Lake is located in the holy city of Pushkar in Ajmer district of Rajasthan. It is a sacred lake and known as Tirtha Raj (A sacred water body). The lake is related to the mythology of Lord Brahma. The lake is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats and more than 500 Hindu temples are situated around the lake.
Lakes history lies back to 4th century BC. According to the legends, in the ninth century, a Rajput king “Nahar Rao Parikar” of Mandore was chasing a boar to the lake for hunting. In order to quench his thirst, when he dipped his hand in the lake water, he was shocked to see that the Leukoderma marks on his hand vanished. Seeing & feeling the sacred holy water of the lake, he restored it to its glory.It is also said that 10th Sikh Guru ”Guru Gobind Singh Ji” have also recited the Guru Granth the holy book of Sikhs on the bank of this lake.
